IS 884 hose-box spec, decoded for procurement teams.

What every spec sheet must include — dimensions, accessories, mounting hardware, and tolerances.

Procurement teams ask the same five questions when sourcing IS 884 hose boxes. This note answers them in plain language, with the part numbers and tolerances that matter.

The cabinet itself

IS 884 sets dimensional envelopes for double-door and single-door hose boxes. The size you most often see — 750 × 600 × 250 mm — is the smallest double-door that still fits a 15-metre delivery hose, a coupled branch, and a small loop of slack.

The hardware inside

The standard specifies couplings to IS 5290 and branch pipes to IS 2871. If the spec sheet omits the IS code on accessories, treat it as a red flag.

The finish

UV-stable gel coat survives outdoor installations through Indian summers. PU paint on MS cabinets does not. We've seen MS hose boxes corrode through in 24 months on coastal jetties; FRP hose boxes on the same site are still in service after six years.

The mounting kit

A wall-mount FRP hose box without MS mounting clamps is incomplete. Always confirm the clamps are included in the price and shipped in the same crate.

The documentation

Serial-numbered hose boxes with batch QC records survive procurement audits. Hardware without traceable batch numbers does not.
